HOMICIDE
On Sunday, May 24, 2015, Army Sergeant Calvin Wilhite Jr. and his fiancé were leaving Beale Street, walking down South Fourth Street. Just past the FedEx Forum Wilhite became involved in a verbal altercation with two males who pulled up next to them in a vehicle.
The couple attempted to avoid the confrontation and crossed the street. The driver of the vehicle, apparently apologizing, coaxed Wilhite back into the street when the passenger of the vehicle opened fire on him. The vehicle fled the scene southbound on S. Fourth St. across Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. Calvin Wilhite was transported to Regional One where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Shelby County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.
The driver of the vehicle was described as a male, black, 22-25 years of age, light complexion, with hazel eyes, wearing a high fade with curls on top. The passenger was described as a male, black, medium to dark complexion, with a chubby face, 22-25 years of age and a fade hairstyle. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a green or gray four-door Chrysler Sebring.
This remains an ongoing investigation and carries a $20,000.00 extra reward, over and above a regular CrimeStoppers award, for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers, (901) 528-CASH (2274).
