HOMICIDE

Cedric Birdsong was leaving a convenience store about 6:20 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021 when he was approached by a man with a face covering. The man shot him at pointblank range.

Ridgeway Station officers responded to the crime at the Raines Mart, 5915 E. Raines Road near Hickory Hill Road in east Memphis and found Birdsong on the ground. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was unresponsive. Memphis Fire personnel arrived and pronounced him dead.

The suspect is described as a six-foot, 150 pounds male wearing dark clothing, white hat and face covering. He was last seen running south behind the business. Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to contact CrimeStoppers, 528-CASH (2274) for an award up to $1,000.

January 15, 2021

HOMICIDE

Reports of a shooting brought Austin Peay station officers of the Memphis Police Dept to the 3300 block of Cypress Road, just south of James Road in north Memphis, about 11:45 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2021. On arrival they found an unresponsive Terita J. Smith.

Smith was suffering from a gunshot wound and sitting in the driver’s seat of a black 2019 Chrysler 300. Memphis Fire Dept. paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim dead.

January 8, 2021

HOMICIDE

It was 8 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2021 when Memphis Police officers from the North Main Street station were dispatched to the 800 block of E.H. Crump Blvd., just south of downtown, in response to an accident report.

On Crump the officers discovered an unresponsive victim inside a wrecked GMC Terrain. The man was pronounced dead by Memphis Fire Dept. paramedics at the scene.

Special Traffic Unit investigators arrived. Their efforts soon revealed that the victim, Jabouri Williams, had been shot multiple times. MPD homicide detectives were then brought to the crime scene. January 1, 2021

HOMICIDE

At 1:10 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2020 Memphis Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at a Dollar Tree store at 5110 Summer Avenue in east Memphis. At the scene officers found Antwoni Purnell on the floor. He was suffering from gunshot wounds and was unresponsive.

Purnell was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. Officers learned that while he was in the store a person in a white hoodie, black pants and a mask walked into the store and began shooting. The suspect then ran from the business and got into a stolen gray Dodge Charger with a missing front bumper and Tennessee license plate number 2F4-8Z6.

December 18, 2020

HOMICIDE

Memphis Police Officers stationed at the Tillman Street precinct responded to a shooting report at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020 in the 500 block of Belt Line Street near the Liberty Bowl Coliseum.

On arrival the officers found two men who were unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds inside a gray vehicle. Travious Hawthorne and Alexander Stewart were pronounced dead on the scene by Memphis Fire Dept. paramedics.

Officers learned that persons nearby heard numerous shots fired and a male wearing black clothing and a mask was seen running from the scene. Because no other information was available, investigators need the public help to solve this double murder.

December 4, 2020

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

A shooting report near Poplar Avenue and Dunlap Street in the medical district brought officers from the Memphis Police Department’s North Main station to the area at 8 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019. There they learned that an adult female victim who had been shot had driven herself to Le Bonheur’s Emergency Room.

The woman was stabilized and transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition for long-term care. Officers learned that the woman was walking to her car on Dunlap after leaving work at a medical facility. Two male suspects approached her, attempted to carjack her and she was shot in the struggle. The men fled on foot northbound on Dunlap, westbound on Mosby and northbound on Leath Street to Peach Avenue. Here are descriptions:

Suspect #1 is a male black, five-foot-six to five-foot-eight, light complexioned with freckles. He was wearing a dark hooded jacket and dark shoes. He carried a silver handgun.

Suspect #2 is a male black, five-foot-eight to five-foot-ten. He wore a dark hooded jacket, light-colored pants and light-colored shoes.
