AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

The public has been asked for help in locating a fugitive from justice who fired shots at an off-duty police officer at 7:13 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2023 in a parking lot at 4872 Poplar Avenue.

Several suspects was observed breaking into a Dodge Charger outside businesses in a strip mall. The officer identified himself as a police officer and approached the individuals. They fled but one fired shots. The officer returned fire.

An individual that day arrived at St. Francis Hospital with a gunshot wound. He was transferred to Regional One Hospital, and was treated and released before anyone connected him to the scene of the shooting. The following day, May 1, police identified the wounded man as Chase Harris, 19. He was one of the individuals captured on video at the scene.

A warrant has been issued for Harris for theft of property, auto burglary (times five autos), aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Call CrimeStoppers with any information. Calls — 528-CASH (2274) — are anonymous. An award is available.
