HOMICIDE

Memphis Police officers were dispatched to 3081 Rainer Street in Frayser at 2:24 in the morning Sunday, November 27, 2022 to check out a report of a shooting.

Patrolmen arrived at a residence and found a man lying in the hallway of the house.

Norbert Clear had a gunshot wound and was unresponsive. By 2:40 a.m. Memphis Fire Department paramedics pronounced Clear dead on the scene.

HOMICIDE

A report of a man lying on the interstate highway brought North Main Station Memphis Police officers to I-240 at Jackson Avenue in north Memphis on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 9:34 p.m.

When they arrived minutes later the officers found Curtis Hayes on the ground next to a U-Haul rental truck. He was unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics with the Memphis Fire Department pronounced Hayes dead at 9:51 p.m.

HOMICIDE

The report of a shooting brought MPD officers assigned to the Austin Peay Station to 2583 Treemont Drive, in the Ridgecrest Apartments, at 8:11 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2022. Patrolmen arrived inside the north Memphis complex and found a man on the sidewalk.

Dedrick Davenport, 27 years old, was suffering from gunshot wounds and was unresponsive. Memphis Fire paramedics transported Davenport to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead minutes later.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT / CARJACKING

A Cold Case
It was 8 at night three years ago — Friday, November 22, 2019 — when Memphis Police officers assigned to the North Main Street station responded to a call about a shooting in the Medical District. They arrived at the scene near the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Dunlap Street and learned a female gunshot victim had driven herself to the Le Bonheur Hospital emergency room.

The woman was stabilized and transferred to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. Police learned that she was walking to her parked car after work at a nearby medical facility when she was approached by two men on foot. The men attempted to take her car by force and shot her in the process.

The assailants fled northbound on Dunlap, then westbound on Mosby and northbound on Leath Street to Peach Avenue before disappearing. The men are described this way:

Suspect #1: A male black, five foot six to five foot eight, light complexion with freckles and wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark shoes. He was armed with a silver handgun.

Suspect #2: A male black, five foot eight to five foot ten, wearing a dark hooded jacket, light-colored pants and shoes.

HOMICIDE

A “person down” call came to the Memphis Police Department’s Mt. Moriah station a few minutes to 1 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2022.

Officers were dispatched to The Reserve Apartments at 5794 Julann Drive, just off Mt. Moriah Road in southeast Memphis. They arrived to find Patrick Robinson lying in an abandoned part of the complex, beside a dumpster.

Memphis Fire Dept. paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene a few minutes later. Robinson had been shot at least twice.

Crime of the Week #37

HOMICIDE

Armond Tatum sat in a chair outside his apartment at 1544 Merton Street in north Memphis in warm weather Tuesday afternoon, November 1, 2022. It was about 2:45 p.m. when an eastbound white Kia Soul came to a stop on nearby Peres Avenue.

Security video footage shows what happened next. A lone male dressed in black and wearing a hood exited the car’s front passenger seat, ran up to Tatum and shot him several times. The gunmen then ran back to the car which drove away on Peres. The victim, meanwhile, collapsed at his doorway.

Memphis Police got a shooting call at 2:52 p.m. and patrolmen soon arrived to find Tatum unresponsive. Memphis Fire Department paramedics also arrived and pronounced Tatum dead at 3:04 p.m.

Crime of the Week #36

HOMICIDE

Reports of a shooting brought Memphis Police patrolmen from the Mt. Moriah Station to 5093 Wooddale Avenue near Winchester Road in east Memphis at 2:05 Sunday afternoon, October 30, 2022.

On arrival officers found an unresponsive female suffering an apparent gunshot wound on the floor of a house. Memphis Fire Department paramedics pronounced Shunish Baggett dead at the scene at 2:22 p.m.

HOMICIDE

Reports of a shooting brought Memphis Police officers stationed at the Ridgeway precinct to a house at 4375 Sandy Park Drive in southeast Memphis Saturday, September 10, 2022. It was 7:27 at night.

At the scene officers were met by a woman who said her house had been “shot up” and that her husband was inside. The patrolmen found Byron Johnson on the living room sofa. He had been struck by a bullet and was unresponsive. Memphis Fire Department paramedics took him to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

October 21, 2022

HOMICIDE

The report of shots fired at 1:18 a.m. brought Memphis Police officers from the Austin Peay Station to 3242 Harvester Lane East, in the Frayser area, Friday, September 16, 2022.

The patrolmen arrived to find a man who had been shot multiple times but was still alive. Quentin Dotson, 40, was transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. A month later, on October 15, the MPD Homicide Bureau was notified by the Shelby County Medical Examiner that Dotson had died of his injuries and the case was ruled a homicide.

October 5, 2022

HOMICIDE

A shooting report brought Memphis Police officers assigned to the Raines Road station to 4822 Hillbrook Road, between West Shelby Drive and Fairly High School at 4:57 a.m. Sunday October 2, 2022.

On the way, the officers received an additional call telling them that gunshot victim David Vester was being driven to Methodist South Hospital. Vester didn’t make it there alive. He was pronounced dead inside the vehicle by Memphis Fire Department United 25 paramedics.
