Firefighter’s arson death remains open case 1 year later; award $9,000

It was a year ago when the Memphis Fire Department responded to a house fire in south Memphis, and lost one of its own in the line of duty.

Lt. Jeffrey Norman was trapped inside the home while fighting the fire on June 18, 2023 and lost his life. Three other firefighters were injured.

The next day the MFD announced that the fire had started in a dumpster in front of the home’s carport and that the fire was a case of arson.

The case remains unsolved and CrimeStoppers continues to seek tips that will lead to an arrest. An award of $9,000 is available in the case to anyone who calls 528-CASH (2274) with information that helps authorities make an arrest.

Tips needed on death of woman thrown from overpass in January

It was around the New Year, 2024 holiday that Dominic Davis went missing.

The 40-year-old woman had recently returned home to Memphis from Las Vegas. She apparently was accompanied by a man, name unknown, and was last seen by a member of her family on Dec. 30 in the High Point Terrance and Summer Avenue area, near her family home.

A missing report was filed and a few days later a body was found near an overpass on Sam Cooper Blvd., in the High Point Terrace vicinity. It was Dominic Davis.

According to her family, she apparently had been pushed off the overpass some time around New Year’s Day, probably late at night.

“Detectives tell us they have run out of leads,” said her mother, Ella Davis. “They are suspicious of someone but haven’t enough evidence to make an arrest.”

Anyone with information about Dominic Davis in the last days of her life, including who she was with, should contact CrimeStoppers at 528-CASH (2274).
