February 11, 2022

HOMICIDE

A report of a shooting sent a Memphis Police cruiser from the Tillman Station to the 3700 block of Carnes Avenue just west of Audubon Park a few minutes past midnight Saturday, February 5, 2022.

At the scene officers located a man lying in the street and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Jacobi Price, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is known that a dark-colored sedan was in the area at the time of the shooting. Anyone with any information, even the smallest detail about this homicide, is urged to contact CrimeStoppers, 528-CASH (2274).

Crime of the Week #3

January 30, 2022

HOMICIDE

It was 4:45 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon — January 13, 2022 — when another report of an interstate highway shooting came to the Memphis Police Department. Mt. Moriah station officers were dispatched to the end of the Lamar Avenue westbound exit ramp on the south leg of I-240.

There, near the intersection of S. Prescott Street and Cherokee Boulevard, police found a stopped 2016 Kia Optima. Inside were two shooting victims suffering from multiple wounds.

Markarius Marr was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. The initial investigation determined that a silver sedan pulled alongside the victims’ car as they exited the highway. Occupants in the silver car opened fire, then continued westbound as they fled.

Crime of the Week #2

January 21, 2022

HOMICIDE

Memphis Police Officers assigned to the Rains Road station responded at 12:10 am. Sunday, January 8, 2022 to a car crash reported at Dividend Drive and Corporate Avenue, at the Nonconnah Corporate Center just off I-240’s south leg. On arrival they found two deceased individuals who had been ejected from a crashed Infinity sedan.

Officers quickly learned that the two men — Jonathan Fullerton and Eric Lesure — had been shot multiple times just before the crash. Officers discovered that the men had been traveling eastbound near Millbranch Road when they were struck by gunfire. Their car veered off the interstate to the right and crashed.

Crime of the Week #1

January 7, 2022

HOMICIDE

It was New Year’s Eve and Memphis Police officers were called to one more murder in 2021. Raines Station officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at the intersection of Goodhaven Road and Goodhaven Circle, just west of I-55 in south Memphis.

At the scene the officers found a man in the street. He had been shot and was pronounced dead where he lay. Police learned that the victim was walking on Goodhaven Drive when he and a pickup truck driver exchanged words. After shots were fired, the dark colored truck sped from the scene.

Attempted Carjacking

A Cold Case
It was about 8 p.m. on Friday November 22, 2019 when Memphis Police Department officers from the North Main Station responded to a reported shooting in the Medical District near the intersection of Dunlap Street and Poplar Avenue.

Officers soon learned that an adult female shooting victim drove herself to Le Bonheur Hospital’s Emergency Room after an attempted carjacking by two men who fled on foot after a brief struggle. The victim was stabilized and transferred to Regional One in critical condition. The woman was leaving work and was approaching her parked car when the crime occurred. The suspects ran northbound on Dunlap, then west on Mosby, and again north on Leath Street toward Peach Avenue. Police described the men this way:

Suspect One is a male black, five-six to five-eight inches tall, with light complexion and freckles. He was wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark shoes and was armed with a silver handgun.

Suspect Two is a male black, five-eight to five-ten inches tall. He wore a dark hooded jacket, light-colored pants and shoes.

HOMICIDE

A Cold Case
A car crash report brought Memphis Police officers to a site near the intersection of Aden Street and Willow Wood Avenue in the Alta Vista neighborhood of north Memphis at 5:40 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018. In a ditch they spotted an Infinity sedan. In the car was Jeremy Webster, 30.

Webster had been shot, apparently the night before, December 20, and was taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries. Homicide detectives need any witness — or anyone who has information about this murder — to contact CrimeStoppers at 528-CASH (2274).

Crime of the Week #36

November 5, 2021

HOMICIDE

It was 7:55 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 when Memphis Police officers were dispatched to the Reserve at Mt. Moriah apartment complex in the 5800 block of Dutton Place near Mt. Moriah Road in southeast Memphis to check out a report of an unresponsive female.

Officers found Nicola Gray. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crime of the Week #35

October 29, 2021

HOMICIDE

Reports of a man down brought Memphis Police officers from the Raines Road Station to the 400 block of Howard Drive near Fairley High School at 11:21 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021. At the scene the officers found Erik Smith in the street next to a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis with a Mississippi license plate.

Smith was unresponsive and had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers learned that a dark-colored SUV had been seen leaving the area right after the shots. Crime of the Week #34

October 22, 2021

HOMICIDE

On Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, at 4 pm Memphis Police Officers assigned to the Appling Farms station responded to an accident call in the westbound lanes of I-40, west of Sycamore View Rd. Officers arrived to find a 2005 blue Ford Mustang with the driver’s side against the dividing wall separating eastbound and westbound traffic.

The driver, Ladarius Spates, was unresponsive and bleeding from the head. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim dead on the scene. Spates had been shot.

An initial investigation revealed that as the victim was traveling westbound on I-40 his vehicle veered hard across all three lanes and hit the dividing wall, where it came to rest.

October 15, 2021

HOMICIDE

Reports of shots fired brought Memphis Police officers assigned to the Austin Peay station to the 2600 block of Whitney Avenue near Range Line Road in the Frayser area about 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. They immediately found a shooting victim lying in a yard.

Keoisha Thomas was unresponsive. She had been hit by multiple bullets and was transported to Regional One Hospital where she later died.

Officers learned the victim was heard talking to someone before shots were fired. Anyone with any information on this ongoing homicide investigation is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 528-CASH (2274).
