$15,000 CrimeStoppers award now posted in Orange Mound shooting

Memphis City Council has added $11,000 to the CrimeStoppers $4,000 award in murder cases for a total of $15,000 now available from the crime-fighting organization in the Orange Mound shooting.

“The funds have been made immediately available and now are in a bank account and ready to be paid out to any citizen who calls 528-CASH with information that helps Memphis Police investigators identify suspects,” said David Wayne Brown, Executive Director of CrimeStoppers.

In addition to the CrimeStoppers award, the U.S. Marshall’s Office has offered a $10,000 award.

It is imperative that CrimeStoppers correct an erroneous report in the community of thousands of dollars in awards available in the Orange Mound mass shooting incident that occurred a few days ago.

As of the time of this writing on April 24, 2024, no extraordinary funds have been provided to CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County to be paid for information that helps investigators issue a charge or warrant or make an arrest in the murders.

At this time, the usual amount — up to $4,000 — is available from CrimeStoppers.

In future, it is very important that any word of extra awards must only come from this office. Please check with us before reporting any extra awards.

$10,000 extra CrimeStoppers award offered in murder of rental house worker

Memphis, TN – A $10,000 CrimeStoppers extra award has been posted in the January 29 murder of Michael “Ross” Collier in an apparent carjacking as he worked on a house in a south Memphis neighborhood.

Collier, an employee of Urban Property Management, was at a rental house on Patton Road Monday morning and noticed someone at his truck. Moments later he was shot and the 2004 white F-150 Ford truck was driven away. Collier died shortly after police arrived on the scene.

Although residents in the area heard the gunfire, no one came forward to say they saw the suspect. The truck has an extended cab and a broken right wheel brake light and a dented fender.

Anyone who sees the vehicle should call Memphis Police.

“Someone knows the person or persons responsible for this crime,” said David Wayne Brown, executive director of CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County. “We urge anyone who knows anything to call us at 528-CASH (2274) right away.”

$10,000 offered in FedEx heists

MEMPHIS, TN — A $10,000 award has been posted with CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County for information leading to a warrant and/or the arrest of any individuals involved in the recent ambush and looting of FedEx vehicles.

This includes the incident that occurred on November 11, when multiple cars blocked a tractor trailer at the intersection of Riverport Road and Mallory Avenue. Suspects broke the seal and latch on the back of the trailer and dozens of individuals from nearby parked cars joined in stealing packages.

Additionally, on December 15, a FedEx vehicle making deliveries near Tennessee Street was targeted by a few individuals who stole multiple packages before fleeing.

$10,000 will be provided by FedEx, and is in addition to any award determined by the CrimeStoppers Citizen Awards Committee should the Memphis Police Department determine that a tip helped solve these crimes.

“The brazen theft from FedEx trucks are appalling acts in our community and we appreciate the support from FedEx to help identify the individuals responsible,” said David Wayne Brown, executive director of CrimeStoppers. “We urge anyone with information about any of the individuals involved to call or text CrimeStoppers at 528-CASH (2274). Every contact remains anonymous.”

The drivers involved thankfully were not hurt during the incidents.

In a statement released by FedEx regarding the November 11 looting, a company spokesperson said, “The safety of our team members and the security of our customers’ shipments are top priorities, and we are grateful there were no serious injuries as a result of this incident. We are cooperating fully with investigating authorities and taking appropriate steps to address this matter.”

Crime of the Week #21

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

It was about 9:20 p.m. Sunday August 20, 2023 when shots were reported in the parking lot of the Kroger store at 540 S. Mendenhall Road in east Memphis. Two men in a black Infiniti EX35 were handed a device from the driver of a red Dodge Charger. The men in the first car then broke the sunroof of a nearby white Infiniti to steal it.

It was at this time that a man came out of Kroger and one of the men in the black Infiniti stood up through the driver’s window and fired shots, hitting the Kroger customer in the leg. The shooters fled and the man who was shot was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Crime of the Week #20

CARJACKING

It was about 1:30 p.m. May 17, 2023 when a man walked toward his 2022 Honda HRV at the Save Mart, 1648 Oakwood Drive in the Hollywood neighborhood of north Memphis. Just before he reached his car a man came up from behind him and assaulted him.

He was knocked to the ground and the suspect stole a bag. Two other suspects joined the first. They got into the vehicle and as they left the scene one suspect fired a shot, striking the victim in the back.

Memphis Police investigators said one suspect was wearing a black hoodie with the Nike name and logo on the front, black “skinny” jeans. He was armed with a black handgun. Two grainy photos shown here were recovered from a security camera.

Crime of the Week #19

BUSINESS ROBBERY

Memphis Police officers responded to a robbery at Dollar General store in the 4000 block of Millbranch Road. It was 5:52 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Officers arrived and learned that two unknown male suspects entered the store and approached checkout. One suspect brandished a black handgun toward the cashier as the other jumped over the counter and took money from the till. The two men fled, running northbound on Millbranch.

Suspect #1 was a black male, of medium complexion, 5 foot 10 inches tall, about 19 years old. He wore a black facemask, a dark hoodie, green jacket with words on the front, dark pants and shoes. He was armed with a handgun.

Suspect #2 was a black male of medium complexion, also 5 foot 10 inches and about 19. He had a slim building and was wearing a black face mask, a gray hoodie, dark pants and shoes.

Crime of the Week #18

ROBBERY OF BUSINESS

Memphis Police Officers responded to an armed robbery at a Marathon gas station at 3877 Park Avenue in east Memphis at 12:05 a.m. June 21, 2023.

At the scene officers learned that three males entered the business, two of them with handguns drawn. Two suspects approached the counter while a third man stood at the entrance door as “lookout.” One of the first suspects kicked open a door leading behind the counter and forced the clerk at gunpoint to empty the cash register.

The three suspects fled with the money on foot. Memphis Police issue the following descriptions:

Suspect #1 – a male in a black hoodie, gray jeans, black and white Van tennis shoes, with handgun.

Suspect #2 – a male wearing a black and white striped shirt, black pants and white shoes, with handgun.

Suspect #3: a male in a light-colored shirt, red pants and black and white shoes.

No arrests have been made. The public’s help is sought in identifying the trio. Call CrimeStoppers at 5428-CASH (2274).

Crime of the Week #17

CARJACKING

Memphis Police responded to a carjacking report at 7:18 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023. When the first officers on the scene arrived at 3558 Lamar Avenue they found a man who had earlier in the evening pulled into the parking lot with a deflated tire.

While he waited in line to get the flat fixed two men approached him at gunpoint and demanded he get out of his vehicle. He complied. The two men drove off. They were last seen driving north on Lamar, one tire flat.

Here are descriptions of the suspects. The first was a black male, between 20 and 30 years old, of medium complexion, five-foot-seven, thin build, black shirt, blue jean shorts and white athletic shoes. The second was a black male between 20 and 30, medium complexion, five-foot eight, thin, gray hoodie, black shorts and white slides.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the two men.

Crime of the Week #16

BURGLARY

The burglar had no idea the homeowner would see him on her house’s video surveillance device.

It was 8:22 a.m. August 15, 2022 when he entered the single family home in the 200 block of Radar Road in the Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis. The intruder forced open a side door, walked through the living room and ransacked the master bedroom. The victim reported stolen a tablet computer, shoes, a 9-mm handgun and ammunition.

The suspect (see photos) was a black male wearing a white cap and a light-colored jacket over a white t-shirt. Memphis Police investigators are asking the public’s help in identifying the burglar. Contact CrimeStoppers at 528-CASH (2274).
