May 18, 2022

HOMICIDE

Memphis Police officers assigned to the Crump Station were dispatched to check an accident report outside the Tuscany Apartments building at 1531 Poplar Avenue in midtown Memphis at 11:49 Wednesday May 11, 2022. At the scene, near Williamson Street, the officers found a woman in a car suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was in the driver’s seat of a black Volkswagon Jetta. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A witness heard a gunshot, looked out a window, and saw the Jetta back up then move forward into another parked car.

Crime of the Week #16

Memphis Police officers stationed at Austin Peay answered a shooting call in the 4400 block of Sunny View Drive in north Memphis Sunday, May 8, 2022. There they found a man lying in the street. He had been shot and was declared dead at the scene.

The victim had been seen arguing with another male on the street, and then 10 minutes later a dark-colored pickup truck drove by. Occupants of the truck and the victim exchanged angry words. Moments later the victim staggered away and fell in the street. The truck left the scene westbound on Smith Ridge Road.

A Cold Case
It was 7:17 on Christmas night, December 25, 2019, when officers assigned to the Austin Peay Memphis Police station were sent to check out a shooting at Tessland Road and Hawkins Mill.

When they arrived they found an unresponsive man who had been shot sitting in a Volkswagon. Memphis Fire Dept. paramedics rushed Deron Davis to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. He later died.

The officers learned that Davis had driven to a nearby store after celebrating the holiday with his family. His wife reported his phone called hers but all she could hear was music playing.

Crime of the Week #14

HOMICIDE

A shooting report brought officers attached to the Memphis Police Department’s Raines Station to the 3800 block of Masterson Street in the Westwood area of south Memphis. The call came at 6:11 p.m. Sunday May 2, 2021, one year ago.

At the scene officers learned that two 15-year-olds were sitting in a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder when unknown subjects occupying a black four-door sedan shot at them. Both teens were hit by bullets. One, a male, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The dark vehicle was captured on surveillance video and a witness described the occupants as two adult black males. Detectives need help in this ongoing murder investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers, 528-CASH (2274).

HOMICIDE

A report of a shooting brought Memphis Police officers stationed at the Austin Peay precinct to the intersection of Point Church Avenue and Mountain Terrace Street in Frayser at 3 a.m. Sunday, March 20, 2022. There the officers found a wrecked 2003 Ford Fusion. Inside was a shooting victim.

The man, identified as Jeffery Miller, was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition and died several hours later.

April 8, 2022

HOMICIDE

Memphis Police officers assigned to the Ridgeway Station responded to a shooting report on Friday, April 1, 2022. They arrived in the Cedar Run Apartments on East Point Cove in the Hickory Hill area to find a 13-year-old girl suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Memphis Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead on the scene inside an apartment.

Officers learned that after several shots were fired four young males were seen running from the scene. The bullets went through the wall and into the apartment. April 1, 2022

HOMICIDE

Memphis Police officers assigned to the city’s Airways Station were on routine patrol Sunday, February 27, 2022 when they heard a gunshot at 8:53 p.m. coming from the area of the Astro Airways Apartments at 2355 Pendleton. They drove into the complex but didn’t find anything or anyone.

Minutes later, however, they were dispatched to nearby Lamar and Semmes where an ambulance had been flagged down and paramedics were treating a gunshot victim. Romone Brooks had received a gunshot wound to his chest. He had been in the apartment complex when he was shot and somehow made his way to the intersection.

Brooks was transported to Regional One Hospital. There he was pronounced dead.

A Cold Case
Memphis Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment at 109 N. Belvedere in Midtown about 10 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009. On arrival they located a shooting victim, who was transported to The Med (now Regional One Hospital) where he died.

The man, Fate Coaty, 36, apparently was shot during a robbery or burglary. Witnesses provided descriptions of two suspects in 2009.

Suspect number 1 was a black male, five foot nine to 11 inches tall, weighing 175 to 180 pounds, with a medium build and dark complexion. Suspect number 2 was described as a black male, six feet tall and with a dark complexion.

The suspects took a DVD or VCR player from the victim’s apartment and left the scene in a burgundy or red 4-door Ford Taurus. The vehicle had been loaned to Coaty by a friend.

Crime of the Week #9

March 18, 2022

HOMICIDE

Officers posted to the Memphis Police Department’s Ridgeway Station responded at 6:23 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2022 to a vehicle crash reported in the 4500 block of East Shelby Drive in southeast Memphis.

On arrival they discovered Jamarrius Robinson inside a white Chevrolet Malibu. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics with the Memphis Fire Department pronounced Robinson dead at the scene. Officers learned that the victim had been travelling westbound on E. Shelby before veering into a roadside ditch after shots were fired.

Crime of the Week #8

March 11, 2022

HOMICIDE

A Cold Case
A call came to the Memphis Police Department at 4:14 a.m. Saturday March 6, 2021 about a shooting. Officers assigned to the Appling Farms Station responded to a business at 5280 Elmore Road near Raleigh-LaGrange Road.

In the parking lot of the Beast Deal Automotive Repair shop they found a victim lying on the pavement. The man, later identified as Gerald Stewart, had been shot several times. Stewart, the owner of the business, was transported to Regional One Hospital but didn’t survive his injuries.

In the initial stages of the investigation of this murder detectives discovered that Stewart had received notifications on his phone from his business’s security alarm. He drove to the shop and encountered suspects on the property who then shot Stewart and fled in a mid-sized white sedan.
