November 9, 2022

HOMICIDE

Armond Tatum sat in a chair outside his apartment at 1544 Merton Street in north Memphis in warm weather Tuesday afternoon, November 1, 2022. It was about 2:45 p.m. when an eastbound white Kia Soul came to a stop on nearby Peres Avenue.

Security video footage shows what happened next. A lone male dressed in black and wearing a hood exited the car’s front passenger seat, ran up to Tatum and shot him several times. The gunmen then ran back to the car which drove away on Peres. The victim, meanwhile, collapsed at his doorway.

Memphis Police got a shooting call at 2:52 p.m. and patrolmen soon arrived to find Tatum unresponsive. Memphis Fire Department paramedics also arrived and pronounced Tatum dead at 3:04 p.m.

November 2, 2022

HOMICIDE

Reports of a shooting brought Memphis Police patrolmen from the Mt. Moriah Station to 5093 Wooddale Avenue near Winchester Road in east Memphis at 2:05 Sunday afternoon, October 30, 2022.

On arrival officers found an unresponsive female suffering an apparent gunshot wound on the floor of a house. Memphis Fire Department paramedics pronounced Shunish Baggett dead at the scene at 2:22 p.m.

October 27, 2022

HOMICIDE

Reports of a shooting brought Memphis Police officers stationed at the Ridgeway precinct to a house at 4375 Sandy Park Drive in southeast Memphis Saturday, September 10, 2022. It was 7:27 at night.

At the scene officers were met by a woman who said her house had been “shot up” and that her husband was inside. The patrolmen found Byron Johnson on the living room sofa. He had been struck by a bullet and was unresponsive. Memphis Fire Department paramedics took him to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

October 21, 2022

HOMICIDE

The report of shots fired at 1:18 a.m. brought Memphis Police officers from the Austin Peay Station to 3242 Harvester Lane East, in the Frayser area, Friday, September 16, 2022.

The patrolmen arrived to find a man who had been shot multiple times but was still alive. Quentin Dotson, 40, was transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. A month later, on October 15, the MPD Homicide Bureau was notified by the Shelby County Medical Examiner that Dotson had died of his injuries and the case was ruled a homicide.

HOMICIDE

A shooting report brought Memphis Police officers assigned to the Raines Road station to 4822 Hillbrook Road, between West Shelby Drive and Fairly High School at 4:57 a.m. Sunday October 2, 2022.

On the way, the officers received an additional call telling them that gunshot victim David Vester was being driven to Methodist South Hospital. Vester didn’t make it there alive. He was pronounced dead inside the vehicle by Memphis Fire Department United 25 paramedics.

HOMICIDE

Memphis Police officers stationed at the Austin Peay precinct were dispatched to 1876 Macaulay Avenue in a Frayser neighborhood to check out a shooting report on Monday, September 19, 2022.

The officers arrived at 7:30 p.m. to find Louis McNeil, 69, on the living room floor. He was suffering from a gunshot wound and was unresponsive. Memphis Fire Department paramedics pronounced McNeil dead soon after.

Crime of the Week #31

September 16, 2022

HOMICIDE

Memphis Police received a call from neighbors of a house in the 1500 block of Kansas Street, south of downtown, early the morning of Wednesday, September 7, 2022. They said they hadn’t seen their neighbor for several days and now were detecting a foul order coming from the residence.

Airways Station officers arrived at 1:20 a.m. and entered the house to find the body of Melanie Jones. She had been dead several days.

Detectives completed an investigation at the scene and then transported the body to the Tennessee Regional Forensic Center for an autopsy. Investigators subsequently learned that Jones’ death is a homicide.

September 1, 2022

HOMICIDE

At the report of a shooting, Memphis Police officers assigned to the Austin Peay Station were dispatched to the intersection of Kerwin Drive and Battlefield Drive in the Raleigh area of the city at 11:50 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022.

When they arrived officers located Terry Henderson Jr. He was lying in the roadway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Memphis Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced Henderson dead on the scene.

Police determined that during an apparent carjacking of his silver Nissan Maxima, Henderson was shot. His car was found the next day at Oberle Road and Glasgow Street just outside the Breezy Point Apartments.

Someone may know more details about this murder or have information on who dropped off the victim’s car. Memphis Police got a call about a shooting on Interstate-240 north at the northbound exit for Norris Road (Exit 26) at 8 a.m. Sunday, August 21, 2022. When Airways Station officers arrived they located a white four-door 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck on the rap with several victims inside.

One man, Ragan Martin, 26, was seriously injured by a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Officers learned that occupants in a black sedan had opened fire on the pickup. Real Time Crime Center officers located a Tennessee Department of Transportation video of shootings between two vehicles that began near Mt. Moriah and continued on the expressway.

Crime of the Week #28

August 17, 2022

HOMICIDE

Memphis Police officers assigned to the Crump precinct were dispatched to check out a shooting report at 9:06 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 in the 2800 block of Chelsea Avenue, an industrial strip. They arrived at the edge of the Berclair neighborhood of north Memphis to find a maroon 2014 Chevrolet Corvette had been knocked off the road after colliding with a train.

Inside the Corvette they found Marcus Allen, 33. He was in the driver’s seat. He had been shot several times. Memphis Fire Dept. paramedics pronounced Allen dead at the scene.

A witness who called police told officers the Corvette had been stopped by the northbound train and was waiting to cross the tracks when a white sedan — possibly a Chevrolet Covalt — pulled alongside the driver’s side. Occupants then opened fire on the victim. The suspects’ vehicle made a sudden U-turn and fled west on Chelsea.
