December 30, 2011

Hit and Run Fatality

On Friday, December 23, 2011 at approximately 6:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to Germantown Parkway and Walnut Grove where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and the responsible party had left the scene.

Memphis Fire Department paramedics made the scene and pronounced the victim dead. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was walking across Germantown Parkway when struck. A witness reported seeing a black vehicle with heavy front-end damage leaving the scene, headed southbound on Germantown Parkway.

This case is currently being investigated by the Memphis Police Department's Traffic Office.

December 22, 2011

HOMICIDE

On Monday, October 17, 2011 at 1 a.m. officers made the scene of a shooting at 2871 Clearbrook. Upon arriving they discovered the victim, Anthony Rogers, lying on the front porch. Rogers had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Witnesses advised seeing two men on the porch with Rogers and then hearing shots. One of the suspects left in a yellow 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood, bearing Tennessee tag 8WW-761, which had been used by the victim.

This case is currently being investigated by the Memphis Police Department's Homicide Bureau.

December 15 2011

TWO FOUND DEAD INSIDE HOME

On Thursday, December 8, 2011, at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call at 830 Claybrook. Upon arrival on the scene, officers were advised that a male and female were inside the location unresponsive.

Officers entered the residence and found two victims with gunshot wounds. An ambulance was called to the scene and paramedics pronounced both deceased. The victims have been identified as Melody Weddle and James Rucker.

There is no suspect information available and the investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this Homicide.

December 02 2011

HOMICIDE

On Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at approximately 2:35 a.m. officers responded to a "shots fired" call at 1112 Coppock. Upon arrival officers observed the rear door of the residence partially open. Officers entered the residence and located a female and a male with apparent gunshot wounds lying on the floor of a bedroom. An ambulance made the scene, and both victims were pronounced dead by paramedics.

The victims have since been identified as Nina Powell, female, 43 and Charlie Perry, male, 65. Homicide investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.

November 24, 2011

HOMICIDE

On November 21, 2011, at approximately 7 a.m., officers responded to a "Man Down" call in the area of 2768 Burns. Upon arrival, officers located a male with gunshot wounds lying on the ground at the rear of the residence. An ambulance was called to the scene, and the victim, Nicholas Taylor, was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was walking from a store when he was approached by three subjects in a vehicle firing shots.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation, and the investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.

November 4, 2011

HOMICIDE

On Thursday, September 15th, 2011, at approximately 8:48 a.m., Ridgeway Station officers responded to a complaint of a possible death at 6082 Knights Bridge. Upon arrival the officers were directed to 6056 Knights Bridge where they located the victim, Christopher Young, lying face down on the grass and unresponsive. The Memphis Fire Department arrived on the scene and the victim was pronounced dead.

There is no suspect information.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation, and the investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.

November October 29, 2011

HOMICIDE

On Sunday, October 23rd, 2011, at approximately 2:36 a.m., The Memphis Fire Department made the scene of a house fire at 161 Norwood. After extinguishing the fire they discovered the victim, Charles Perkins, lying on the floor. The Medical Examiner's investigator discovered a wound on the victim's chest.

Police have no suspect at this time.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation, and the investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.

October 21, 2011

HOMICIDE

On Monday, October 17, 2011 at 1:00 AM officers made the scene of a shooting at 2871 Clearbrook where they discovered the victim, Anthony Rogers, lying on the front porch.

October 1, 2011

STORE CLERK KILLED DURING BUSINESS ROBBERY

On Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at 10:57 a.m., officers responded to a reported business robbery at the Bargain Market, 1560 South Parkway. Upon arrival, officers located the store clerk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

An ambulance was called to the scene; the victim was pronounced deceased. The victim later was identified as Elsawy Kandel, male, 60. The preliminary investigation revealed two males entered the store and attempted to rob the business. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and shot the clerk during the robbery. Both suspects fled on foot.

One suspect is described as a male Black wearing a black t-shirt over his face and blue jeans. The second suspect is described as a male Black wearing a white t-shirt over his face and blue jeans.

These same suspects are possibly responsible for the business robbery that occurred at this location on September 3. September 19, 2011

HOMICIDE

On Thursday, September 8, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. Airways Station officers responded to a shooting at the Riverview Community Center, 1891 Kansas. Upon arrival officers discovered Marcus Martin, 34 years old, suffering from a gunshot wound. Martin was pronounced dead on the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing a male black shoot the victim after exiting the community center; he then left the scene on foot. The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation, and the investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.

September 9, 2011

HOMICIDE

On Monday, July 11, 2011, at 8:09 p.m. Old Allen Station officers responded to a shooting at 1643 Ash.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, Jacob Manuel, 17 years old, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Jacob Manuel was transported to the MED where he died a short time later from his injuries. Witnesses reported seeing four male blacks in a gold Lexus drive southbound on Ash and fire several shots at the people in front of 1643 Ash.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation, and the investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.



September 2, 2011

HOMICIDE

On Thursday, August 18, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. Raines Station officers responded to a shooting at 1033 Whitaker, the Birchleaf Apartments.

Upon arrival, officers located a male, Deandre Henderson, lying in the common area of the apartments and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. An ambulance was called to the scene and Henderson was transported to the Regional MED where he was pronounced deceased.

A witness reported seeing a two male blacks drive up in a dark colored vehicle. The witness said the driver of the vehicle got out and shot the victim.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation, and investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.



August 25, 2011

FATAL HIT & RUN

On Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 11:00 p.m., officers responded to a fatal Hit and Run investigation in the area of Summit and Vinton in Midtown Memphis.

Upon arrival it was discovered that the victim Christopher Davidson, 37, rode a bicycle to a friend's home in the 500 block of Summit after leaving the Hi-Tone Café, 1913 Poplar. When he arrived, Davidson had visible abrasions to his forehead and told his friend a vehicle struck him during the bicycle ride. Davidson became ill and his condition worsened. He eventually lost consciousness and was transported to the Regional Medical Center. Davidson died about two hours later from internal injuries.

The Medical Examiner has ruled Davidson's death as accidental caused by blunt force trauma. The Memphis Police Department's Traffic Division is currently in charge of this investigation.

There have been no arrests. Investigators seek citizens' help with identification of a suspect and the vehicle used in this crime.



August 22, 2011

BUSINESS BURGLARY

On Thursday, July 21, 2011, at approximately 7:00 a.m. Mt. Moriah Station officers responded to a burglary at the Tennessee Department of Safety office, 3200 E. Shelby Drive. Officers discovered broken glass and pry mark evidence on the doors. Cash was taken from the safe.

Video surveillance revealed two suspects wearing dark colored clothing, masks and gloves, entered the business at approximately 1:30 a.m. The video and picture of the suspects can be viewed at:

The Burglary Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation. Investigators are hopeful that a citizen may recognize the suspects from the clothing worn, or may have spoken to the suspects since the burglary. They need that person to come forward and help solve this crime.



July 30, 2011

Robbery

On Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at 9:20 p.m. Union Station officers responded to a business robbery call to 800 E. H. Crump Blvd., the Corner Grocery Store. Officers arrived on the scene and learned that three male blacks armed with a semi-automatic handgun and shotgun entered the business and robbed the store. The suspects were seen leaving the area in a small, white four-door car driven by a fourth suspect.

The suspects are described as:
#1-Male black, wearing a black baseball cap, black t-shirt, knee length blue jean shorts and red bandana around his neck.
#2-Male black, wearing a black baseball cap with a purple bill, white t-shirt, white shorts and a dark colored bandana around his neck.
#3-Male black, black baseball cap, black tank top and black shorts.
#4-No description.

July 23, 2011

HOMICIDE

On Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 11:20 p.m. Raines Station officers responded to a shooting at 1448 Hester. Officers arrived on the scene and found the victim, Darius Parker, lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound to his head. Parker was transported to the MED, where he later died. Witnesses on the scene said a blue Nissan Altima drove past the victim and the occupants fired several shots toward the house, striking Parker. The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation, and the investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.

HOMICIDE

On Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 6:06 p.m. officers responded to a shooting at 662 Woodstone Circle, in the Hunter Oaks Apartments. Officers arrived on the scene and found victim, Harold Avery, Jr. lying on the sidewalk in the apartment complex, unresponsive. Avery was transported to the MED, where he later died. Witnesses on the scene advised they heard 2 gunshots and saw Avery exit a gold colored 2002-2004 Cadillac Seville, with a matching gold rag top, then collapse on the ground. The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation, and the investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.



July 9, 2011

BUSINESS BURGLARIES

On July 2, 2011, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a Tillman Station officer responded to a burglary of a business at 2714 Union Extended. The officer was met on the scene by a representative who advised that as he was making his rounds checking the business he found the front door of suite 350 damaged and two flat screen televisions had been taken off the wall. The officer checked the rest of the building and learned that several of the business suites had been burglarized and property taken.

Two suspects have been described as: Suspect #1, male black, wearing all white clothing and a Texas Rangers baseball cap; Suspect #2, male black, wearing a green t-shirt with a white logo across the chest, black shorts, and gold or yellow high top shoes or boots.

The Burglary Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation and the investigators need someone to come forward to help solve these burglaries.

July 1, 2011

BANK ROBBERY

On June 20, 2011, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Airways Station officers responded to a Bank Robbery call regarding to the Bank of America at 3945 Park. Upon arrival, officers learned that a lone male had entered the bank and stood in line posing as a customer. As the suspect approached the teller, he pulled a weapon and told all employees and customers not to move. The suspect demanded money from the teller. The suspect left the bank northbound on Shotwell and was seen leaving the area in a tan or brown Buick or Chevrolet. The suspect has been described as a male black, mid 20’s, 5”10”, 170-190 lbs., goatee, wearing a wig, black jacket, white pants, armed with a black semi automatic. HOME INVASION/SEXUAL ASSAULT

On March 13, 2011, at approximately 7:20 a.m., Mount Moriah Station officers responded to a call regarding a home invasion in the 5400 block of Willow Lake. Upon arriving on the scene, officers located two female victims who had been raped and robbed at gunpoint by two unknown male suspects. Preliminary investigation revealed debit cards taken from the victims were used shortly after the incident occurred. These persons were observed occupying a newer model white Mercury Mountaineer with unknown tags. The first suspect was described as male black, 6’3, 230 lbs, approx. 24 years old, dark complexion, medium length ponytail, dread hairstyle wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and “work” boots. The second subject was described as a male black, 6’, 280 lbs, approx. 24, light complexion, low hair cut, white or tan security shirt, greenish or brown colored pants, and brown "work" boots. The suspects were armed with a black handgun. HOMICIDE at 3211 Kimball

On Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at approximately 6:03 p.m., officers were flagged down regarding a man lying unresponsive in front of 3211 Kimball. Upon arrival, officers located a male lying on the sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. An ambulance was called to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation, and the investigators need someone to come forward with information to help solve this crime.



May 24, 2011

EXPRESS MART BUSINESS ROBBERY

On Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at approximately 11:52 p.m., Union Station officers responded to a business robbery call at the Express Mart located at 1351 Madison Avenue. Upon arriving on the scene officers found the clerk to have been shot once in the leg during the robbery. The suspect was described as a black male, 30 years of age, 5'8, 190 pounds, wearing a dark jacket, white shoes and a black and white toboggan hat with ear muffs on the sides. The suspect fled from the business on foot. HOMICIDE AT 2499 KETCHUM (WILLOW CREEK APARTMENTS)

On Sunday, April 24, 2011, at approximately 9:44 p.m., Airways Station officers made the scene of a disturbance call to 2499 Ketchum in the Willow Creek Apartments. Upon arrival officerst discovered the victim, Marcos Hernandez, 47 years old, lying on the ground in the parking lot, unresponsive. Mr. Hernandez had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene by Memphis Fire Department paramedics. Witnesses reported seeing two unknown male blacks shooting at the victim. The Homicide Unit is currently in charge of this investigation and the investigators need someone to come forward to help solve this homicide.



April 22, 2011

HOMICIDE AT HILLCREST APARTMENTS

On Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Raines Station officers were called to 4182 Faronia #3, to check on the well being of the resident, James Lewis. The family had not been in contact with Mr. Lewis for several days and became concerned for his well being. Upon the officers' entry into the residence they discovered James Lewis dead. Several items were taken from the home. The Homicide Unit is in charge of this investigation. Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this homicide.



April 7, 2011

Smoothie King Robbery

On Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 4:20 p.m., officers assigned to Union Station made the scene of a business robbery at the Smoothie King, located at 1995 Union Avenue. Upon arrival the officers learned that a lone male white, armed with a handgun, entered the business posing as a customer then ordered the employee to give him the money from the register. The suspect left the business with an undetermined amount of cash.

The Safe Streets Task Force, which is comprised of members of the Memphis Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Germantown Police Department and the Bartlett Police Department, are in charge of this investigation. The Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Aggravated Assault at 3612 Tessland Ave

On Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at 2:20 a.m., officers assigned to Old Allen Station and the Felony Response Bureau made the scene of a shooting at 3612 Tessland. A 43-year-old female was inside sleeping when multiple gunshots were fired from outside. At least two shots struck the woman. She was transported to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Several other family members were inside at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured. The identity of the suspect or suspects responsible is unknown. The Felony Assault Unit is currently in charge of this investigation. Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward to assist us in the investigation.



March 27, 2011

MURDER AT E. PERSON AND GABY

On Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 9:54 p.m., Airways Station officers were called to the scene of a shooting at E. Person and Gaby streets. Upon arrival the officers discovered the victim, Jerome Brent, 26 years old, lying in the street suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. Mr. Brent was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation. Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this murder.



March 19, 2011

BEST WESTERN MOTEL BURGLARY

On Thursday, March 3, 2011, at approximately 11:57 p.m., three suspects used an unknown object to open several rooms at the Best Western Motel which is located at 8635 highway 64. The suspects took five Insignia LCD Televisions off the walls and were observed on video surveillance walking out of the back door using sheets to conceal the stolen televisions.

Here are descriptions:

Supect #1 is described as a male Black approximately 6'1", 200 lbs, wearing blue jeans, and a white shirt.
Suspect #2 is described as a male Black approximately 6'2", 300 lbs, wearing blue jeans, and a black puffy jacket.
Suspect #3 is described as a male Black approximately 5'9", 230 lbs, wearing blue jeans, and a red cap with white lettering.

The Burglary Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation and investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this crime.


BUSINESS BURGLARY SUSPECT

On Friday, February 5th, 2011, at approximately 1:40 a.m., the Walnut Hills Apartments leasing office at 8887 Walnut Hills was burglarized. Surveillance video reveals that two suspects were responsible. The first suspect is an African-American male, 5`11"-6`1", 160-180 lbs wearing a white jacket, black hat, dark pants, medium build, and medium complexion. The second suspect is an African-American male, 5`11"-6`1" 160-180 wearing a gray hoodie, multicolored jacket. tennis shoes. There have been no arrests. Burglary Bureau investigators need someone to help them identify these suspects to hold them responsible. Investigators are reviewing other cases and are attempting to determine if the same suspects are responsible for additional burglaries in the area.
